Primarily found in the western Himalayas, ranging from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Nepal.
Habitat
Habit
Deciduous tree, often found along streams and rivers. Male flowers in catkins, up to 19 cm long. Female flowers in erect, mostly solitary "woody cones", 3-3.5 cm x about 1.2 cm.
Uses
The bark is used for dyeing and tanning. The wood is used for construction where better timber is not available. It is also used as a street tree and for firewood.
